Missing Child with Special Needs Found Safe After Community Search Effort

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A missing child with special needs was safely located and returned to her family Sunday evening after a coordinated search effort involving multiple emergency agencies and community members.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call earlier today reporting that the child had walked away from her residence on Mann Lane off Black Jack Church Road. The parents contacted authorities when they discovered their daughter was missing from the home.

A comprehensive search operation was immediately launched, with multiple agencies responding to assist in the effort. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with Arrington Fire, Grantham Fire, Mar-Mac Fire, Rosewood Fire, Wayne County EMS, and Wayne County Office of Emergency Services to locate the missing child.

The search concluded successfully around 6 p.m. when the young girl was found in a nearby neighborhood. The child had rung the doorbell of a neighbor’s home, and the resident immediately called 911 to report her location. She was then safely reunited with her family.

The incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in emergency situations involving vulnerable individuals.

Sheriff Larry Pierce thanked all responding agencies and members of the public who assisted during the search operation. The incident demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated emergency response and community involvement in ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals.

No injuries were reported, and the child was returned home in good condition.
