RALEIGH, N.C. — A community-focused event aimed at raising awareness for mental health issues, particularly affecting children in minority communities, will take place this Saturday at Anderson Point Park.
The Minority Mental Health 5K Walk, Run or Bike, organized by Kimberly McGhee, invites participants to engage in physical activity while supporting an important cause. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT at Anderson Point Park, located at 20 Anderson Point Drive in Raleigh.
According to McGhee, the event encourages community members to walk, run, bike, and raise awareness for mental health in their communities, with a particular focus on children.
The multi-activity format allows participants to choose their preferred method of engagement, whether walking, running, or biking, making the event accessible to community members of varying fitness levels and ages.
The event will also feature vendor opportunities, with limited spaces still available. According to organizers, 10 vendor spots remain available at $30 each, providing local businesses and organizations an opportunity to participate in the community initiative.
Mental health awareness in minority communities has gained increased attention in recent years, with advocates emphasizing the importance of addressing barriers to mental health care and reducing stigma surrounding mental health discussions, particularly as they relate to children and families.
Anderson Point Park, the event’s host location, provides an outdoor venue suitable for the various physical activities planned for the day-long event.
Community members interested in participating or securing vendor space can contact the organizers for additional information about registration and event details.
