PIKEVILLE, N.C. — A routine traffic stop on Independence Day evening resulted in the arrest of a woman who allegedly provided false identification to police and concealed narcotics on her person.
Traffic Stop Initiated Over Suspended License
On July 4th at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers with the Pikeville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a blue Honda Civic after determining the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended license.
K-9 Unit Alerts to Presence of Narcotics
During the traffic stop, officers requested assistance from the Pikeville Police Department K-9 team. The K-9 unit conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted officers to the presence of narcotics inside the car.
Search Yields Narcotics, Investigation Reveals False Identity
Following the K-9 alert, officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, during which narcotics were located and seized. As part of the investigation, officers worked to identify all occupants of the vehicle.
A female passenger initially provided officers with false information regarding her identity. Through their investigation, officers determined the woman’s true identity to be Kelsey Blalock.
Additional Narcotics Discovered During Arrest
Officers placed Blalock under arrest for providing false information. During the arrest process, Blalock allegedly revealed to officers that she had concealed narcotics and a glass pipe on her person in an attempt to avoid detection and prosecution.
The concealed items were later recovered with the assistance of a female officer at the Wayne County Detention Center.
Bond Set at $2,000
Blalock was transported to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office, where she received a $2,000 secured bond.
The investigation involved multiple agencies and highlights the continued efforts of local law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes in the area.
