William Ray “Bill” Pope, 78, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at UNC Health Rex Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ozark, Missouri on July 17, 1946, he was the son of the late William Claude and Anna Mae Jones Pope.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Travis Pope; great-granddaughter, Felicity Sauls; and sisters, Margarita Branch and Jeannette Young.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Cinda Mae Pope; children, Angela Pope Barnes (Chris), Lisa Mooring (Tim), Thomas Pope (Rebecca Watson), and Bridget Marino (Matthew); sister, Susan Sherrod; brother, C.M. Cordell; eighteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Bill was a hardworking man known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and down-to-earth nature. He spent many years as a dedicated roofer, taking great pride in his craft and in helping others keep a roof over their heads—literally and figuratively.

Beyond his work, Bill lived a life full of the simple joys he cherished most. He loved spending time with his family, who were the center of his world. He was happiest in the great outdoors, especially when fishing, camping, or sharing stories around a campfire.

A true lover of connection, Bill enjoyed staying in touch with friends near and far through Facebook, where he was known for his humor, kind comments, and thoughtful messages. He also had a sharp mind for cards and never missed a good game night. Sundays were sacred in Bill’s home, reserved for football and cheering on his beloved Carolina Panthers, win or lose.

Bill will be remembered for his warmth, his unwavering loyalty to loved ones, and the laughter he brought into every room. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Angela Barnes, 1351 Mt. Carmel Church Road, Pikeville.
