Downtown Goldsboro Comes Alive with Celebration for Juneteenth Unity and Heritage Festival

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — This past weekend, the Juneteenth Unity and Heritage Festival drew a vibrant crowd to downtown Goldsboro, offering a spirited celebration of culture, community, and freedom. The festival marked a high-energy kickoff to Juneteenth commemorations with music, family fun, and a showcase of Black excellence.

The streets came alive with a variety of activities and entertainment, headlined by a free live concert featuring both local and regional talent. Performers included The Smitty Band, DJ C-Ray, and a jazz ensemble led by Eric Dawson. High-energy performances by the Triple D Majorette Team and the community-favorite drumline, Funk Nation, kept the crowd energized throughout the day.

Families flocked to the Kid Zone, which was packed with giant inflatable bouncy houses provided by Big Bounce Rentals. Children enjoyed a safe and exciting environment while parents explored rows of vendors and the arts marketplace curated by the Arts Council of Wayne County. Handcrafted items, unique art, and locally made goods highlighted the creativity of area artisans.

Adding to the atmosphere was a bustling market strip spotlighting Black-owned businesses. Guests enjoyed a wide range of offerings from gourmet bakery trucks to savory selections from a variety of food trucks, all serving up delicious fare with a side of hometown pride.

The celebration didn’t stop at the festival grounds. As part of the ongoing festivities, the City of Goldsboro hosted a free indoor concert at the Paramount Theatre, where attendees were treated to a performance by Alexander Starr and the Golden People.

To cap off the excitement, a community raffle added an extra layer of fun and engagement, creating anticipation and participation across festivalgoers of all ages.

The strong turnout and joyous energy throughout the weekend made it clear: Goldsboro is already looking forward to an even bigger and better Juneteenth Unity and Heritage Festival next year.
