Wayne County, N.C. — Eastern North Carolina nonprofits focusing on education, health, and human services have a significant funding opportunity beginning June 20. The Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment, managed by the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF), is opening applications for grants totaling $500,000 this year.
The grants, ranging from $25,000 to $50,000, aim to support nonprofit organizations operating across 41 counties in eastern North Carolina. These counties include Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Tyrrell, Washington, Wayne, and Wilson.
Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, President and CEO of the North Carolina Community Foundation, expressed enthusiasm about continuing Mrs. Burevitch’s legacy, stating,
“It is a privilege to uphold Mrs. Burevitch’s enduring legacy of commitment to the communities of eastern North Carolina. We strongly encourage all eligible nonprofits to apply and continue this important work.”
This year marks the eighth annual cycle of the Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment grant program, which has awarded more than $9 million in funding since its establishment in 2015. The endowment was created to honor the generosity and community spirit of Louise Oriole Burevitch, affectionately known as “Mrs. B,” a Wilmington native whose philanthropy significantly impacted southeastern North Carolina.
Mrs. Burevitch’s dedication to improving the welfare of people and animals in the region was a driving force behind her charitable giving, which only became widely known after her passing in September 2014. The endowment ensures her legacy lives on by supporting nonprofits that address vital community needs.
Grant proposals must focus on one or more of the following areas:
- Education
- Health
- Human services
Proposals that specifically benefit women, children and youth, or older adults will receive some preference, as will projects that serve the southeastern region of North Carolina.
Application Details and Deadlines
The application window opens on June 20 and closes promptly at noon on July 22. Late submissions will not be considered. Interested nonprofits are encouraged to review the full request for proposals (RFP) to understand eligibility criteria and application instructions thoroughly.
The Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment provides funding through this competitive grant program as well as direct designations to nonprofits chosen by Mrs. Burevitch herself.
