Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Seizes Drugs and Firearm in Major Traffic Stop Arrest

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. —- In a significant law enforcement operation, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of James Robert Allen, 38, on multiple drug, weapons, and driving-related charges following a traffic stop during a multi-agency checkpoint.

Investigation and Arrest Details

On June 6th, 2025, members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office DWI Task Force were conducting a checkpoint in the northern part of Wayne County to enhance public safety and combat illegal activity. During the operation, Mr. Allen’s vehicle approached the checkpoint, and officers suspected impairment based on observed behaviors. Probable cause was established, leading to a search of the vehicle.

Discovery of Illegal Narcotics and Weapons

During the search, law enforcement uncovered a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics, including heroin and Schedule II controlled substances, along with drug paraphernalia. Additionally, officers found a concealed handgun, and Mr. Allen was found to be in possession of an open container, among other violations.

Charges Filed and Bond Set

Mr. Allen has been charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • Level I Trafficking by Transportation of Heroin
  • Level I Trafficking by Possession of Heroin
  • Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for Selling Controlled Substances
  • Felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
  • Simple Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia
  • Carrying a Concealed Handgun
  • Driving While Impaired
  • Possession of an Open Container

He is currently held under a secured bond of $302,500. Allen was transported to Wayne County Jail following his arrest.
