Virginia Lee Dowers departed this earthly life Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goldsboro at the age of 81. She was born in Wayne County on September 15, 1943 to the late Wilbert Matthew and Fannie Lewis Reid.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 13, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  Burial will be held at The Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York on Monday, June 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Dowers is survived by her three sons, Tyrone Dowers of Dudley, McCallester Dowers (Ryoko) of Oregon and Henry Reid of Pikeville; three sisters, Carolyn Smith (Chester) of Goldsboro, Gloria Peacock (Cecil Medlin) of New York and Isabella Reid of Goldsboro; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one on the way.
