DMV on Your Schedule: North Carolina Adds More Saturday Service Locations

Goldsboro, N.C. — The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) is bringing back its popular Saturday walk-in service hours, with an expanded lineup of office locations available to serve residents across the state.

Beginning Saturday, May 31, and running through August 23, 20 DMV offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on select Saturdays. Services will not be available on June 28 or July 5 due to holiday scheduling.

This year’s expansion adds four new offices—Elizabeth City, Clayton, Durham East, and Kernersville—bringing the total number of participating locations from 16 to 20. Another key change is that the Raleigh East office will now be open for Saturday service instead of the Raleigh North location.

During last year’s summer session, nearly 17,000 customers utilized the Saturday service hours, highlighting a strong demand for flexible DMV access outside of regular weekday hours.

Walk-in services offered during Saturday hours include:

  • Driver license and ID card issuance
  • Renewals and duplicate orders
  • Address changes
  • REAL ID issuances
  • Road tests (for customers who have completed the knowledge and written exams)

No appointments are needed to access Saturday services at the following offices:

  • Andrews – 1440 Main St.

  • Charlotte North – 9711 David Taylor Dr.

REAL ID Reminder:
With airport security now enforcing REAL ID requirements, DMV Commissioner Paul Tine advises residents to stay informed but avoid unnecessary trips:

  • Unless you have upcoming air travel or will be visiting a federal building, there is no need to rush to the DMV.
  • DMV continues to issue REAL IDs.
  • Passports, military IDs, and global entry cards are all acceptable substitutes for a REAL ID.
