Retired Chief Master Sgt. Grady Conway Hunt, 88, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, on February 15, 1937, he was son to the late James Hurbert Hunt and Mary Jonas Hunt.

Grady graduated from Altavista High School, Altavista, Virginia in 1955. He served two years with the Army National Guard before enlisting in the United States Air Force on February 29, 1956. He retired after 30 years of distinguished service on August 1, 1984.

Chief Master Sgt. Hunt was a Munitions Maintenance Superintendent. His military duty stations included Morocco, Japan, Hawaii, Korea and several stateside assignments. He served with the 3901st Strategic Missile Evaluation Squadron, Vandenberg Air Force Base in California as an inspector for munitions assets associated with the Titan II missile system from September 1969 – October 1972. He also served as re-entry vehicle branch supervisor with the 90th Field Missile Maintenance Squadron, F. E. Warren Air Force Base from May 1980 – August 1984, working with munitions assets associated with the Minuteman III missile system.

During his military service, he received numerous awards including the Meritorious Service medal for outstanding service. In 1984, he retired from the Air Force at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, Wyoming with 30 years of distinguished military service and moved to Goldsboro, NC.

Following his military service, Grady was employed with BB&T in Wilson for 13 years as part of a contracted security service before his final retirement in 2000. He was an active member of Cornerstone Church and the Kiwanis.

Chief Hunt was highly respected by all who knew him and deeply loved by his family. Grady is survived by his two sons, Gregory Hunt and Kenneth Hunt and wife Jeannie; his granddaughter, Sierra Mychelle Hunt; and his sister, Rachel Smith.

In addition to his parents, Grady was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Elise Dalton Hunt; his brother, James Buford Hunt, and his sister, Lola Geraldine Hunt.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to honor Grady’s life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Church. Interment with military honors will conclude at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton.
