What’s Open, What’s Closed: Wayne County’s Memorial Day Schedule

Wayne County, N.C. — In observance of Memorial Day, several Wayne County government services and facilities will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025. Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly as normal operations will resume the following day.

According to county officials, the following changes will take effect:

  • County Government Offices will be closed Monday and will reopen Tuesday, May 27, for normal business hours.
  • Wayne County Public Library branches will also be closed on Memorial Day and resume regular schedules on Tuesday.
  • Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center will not be open on Monday, with operations resuming Tuesday.
  • Wayne County Landfill and Convenience Centers will be closed Monday and reopen on Tuesday.
  • Wayne County Animal Shelter will observe the holiday closure on Monday and return to normal operations Tuesday.

Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday of May, honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Local leaders encourage community members to take the day to reflect and honor the nation’s fallen heroes.
