May 18, 2025, 70, Goldsboro —
Carlo Gardner, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born on August 18, 1954, in Wayne County, Carlo was the son of the late Hoss and Dorothy Mae Gardner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved stepson, Brandon Jinnette.
Carlo dedicated 27 years to Firestone, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. After retiring, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and founded Gardner’s Lawn Care Service. With his trusty mower and trademark grin, he quickly became a familiar face around town—earning the affectionate nickname “The Lawn Ranger” for his dependable service and playful personality.
Carlo had a heart for people and a gift for humor. His quick wit, infectious laughter, and unforgettable one-liners made him the life of every gathering. Whether sharing a joke, teasing a friend, or simply soaking in the moment, he had a way of making everyone around him feel lighter.
A lifelong wrestling fan, Carlo never missed a match. Watching wrestling was more than a pastime—it was part of his daily routine. He also had a deep love for Alabama Crimson Tide football and Atlanta Braves baseball, always cheering on his teams with unwavering loyalty.
Fishing was one of Carlo’s greatest joys, especially the annual trips to Alabama with his Uncle Wayne. Whether they were casting lines or simply “shooting the bull,” these moments became treasured traditions that reflected his deep connection to both nature and family.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Free Chapel P.F.W.B. Church. A celebration of Carlo’s life will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Ronnie Weaver and Rev. Dane Williford.
In keeping with Carlo’s laid-back style, guests are invited to attend in casual attire. As he always liked to say, “No suits necessary.”
Carlo is survived by his daughter, Christy Lynn Gardner Coker, her spouse Jeri Lynn, and their child, Jetty; and by his son, Justin Carlo Gardner, his spouse Natalie, and their children, Annlyn, Austin, and Allie. He is also survived by his sister, Tammy Gardner, and his brother, Joey Edward Gardner.
In addition to his immediate family, Carlo leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members, each of whom he cherished deeply and unconditionally. He also shared a special bond with Landon Casey, whom he loved as a son.
Carlo was fortunate to have a circle of close friends who meant the world to him: Jimmy William (Little Jimmy), Marshall Savage, Billy Batten, Len Morton, and Larry Lane.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their compassionate care and support during Carlo’s final weeks. Their love and dedication were a true blessing.
