May 12, 2025, 77, Goldsboro —
Betty McKeel Ivey, 77, entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 1, 1947, in Wayne County, Betty was the daughter of the late Betty Lester McKeel and Lois Edmundson McKeel. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Clark Smith.
A woman of enduring grace, unwavering dedication, and gentle strength, Betty devoted much of her professional life to Barry Manufacturing in Goldsboro, where she built lasting friendships and took great pride in her work. Following her retirement, her passion for cooking led her to continue serving others in the kitchens of some of Goldsboro’s beloved local restaurants, including Buck Swamp Grill, Triangle Restaurant, and Wilber’s Barbecue.
Betty found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved dancing, casting a fishing line in quiet waters, and tending to her flower garden with care. Yet it was in her own kitchen where she truly shined—preparing meals from the heart and gathering her family around the table. Her warmth, hospitality, and delicious food were hallmarks of every family gathering, leaving behind a legacy rich in love and tradition.
Family was the cornerstone of Betty’s life. Whether celebrating a holiday or simply enjoying a conversation, she deeply valued time spent with those she loved. Her kind spirit, generous heart, and nurturing presence will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Betty is survived by her devoted husband of five years, Norman Ivey; her daughter, Angie Ritchie and husband, Randy of Pikeville; her siblings, Diane Whitley-Davis and fiancé, Pat Mooring, Sandra Ulrey and husband, Kevin, and Billy McKeel, all of Pikeville; and several nieces and nephews whom she cherished deeply.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of life at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel, officiated by Rev. Sherwood Howell. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, La Grange, NC.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Betty in her final days. Your support will never be forgotten.
