Labor Commissioner to Recognize Workplace Safety Achievements at Annual Awards Banquet in Rocky Mount

Rocky Mount, N.C. — North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Luke Farley will visit Rocky Mount on Tuesday, May 20, to recognize local businesses and employees for exemplary workplace safety records during the Department of Labor’s annual Safety Awards Banquet.

The event will be held at Benvenue Country Club, located at 100 Southern Blvd., Rocky Mount, beginning at 12:00 p.m. The ceremony honors organizations that have achieved outstanding safety performance over the past year, demonstrating a consistent commitment to reducing workplace injuries and illnesses.

The North Carolina Department of Labor’s Safety Awards Program is a long-standing initiative that acknowledges employers across the state for maintaining safe working environments. To qualify for recognition, businesses must meet specific safety criteria, including a minimum number of working hours without a lost-time injury and maintaining an incident rate significantly lower than the industry average.

These awards are intended to foster a culture of safety, encourage proactive hazard prevention, and highlight best practices in occupational health and safety management. The event supports the Department of Labor’s broader strategy, which blends education, compliance enforcement, and public recognition to improve overall workplace safety across industries.

Commissioner Farley will provide keynote remarks during the banquet, outlining how the Department is tailoring its approach to meet the safety needs of diverse industries across North Carolina. His address is expected to cover current priorities, emerging safety challenges, and future goals for workplace health and safety initiatives.

The banquet is co-sponsored by the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, which has partnered with the Department of Labor to promote business engagement in safety leadership and community-based recognition.

Local and regional media outlets are encouraged to cover the event. Those interested in attending should contact John Mallow at [email protected] for additional details or to RSVP.
