Billy Carl Denning

May 9, 2025, 82, Goldsboro —

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Billy Carl Denning, a beloved member of the Easy Street community, passed away on May 9, 2025 at the age of 82.

Billy was a devoted fan of NASCAR and never missed a race. He also had a deep appreciation for classic Westerns, which he often said reminded him of a time when honor and loyalty meant everything. His love for fast cars and timeless stories was matched only by his strong work ethic and generous spirit. Helping others was ingrained into him by his father. Billy was always putting others ahead of himself. His secret recipe for mixing bbq was loved by everyone in surrounding communities.

He retired in 2009 after a long and dedicated career as a mechanic, a profession that suited his sharp mind and skilled hands. Billy could fix just about anything and was always ready to lend a hand to friends and neighbors.

A longtime member of Maple Grove Methodist Church, Billy’s faith was an important part of his life. His kindness, humor, and steady presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Billy is survived by his loving wife, Gail Herring Denning; daughter, Susanne Gail Denning; sisters, Sue Denning and Barbara Denning; brothers, Lee Wilkes Denning and Wayne Denning (Linda); brother-in-law, Jesse Denning; sister-in-law, Joyce Herring; nieces, Savannah B. Mozingo (Ben), Summer B. Gray (Daniel) and Bonnie H. Wise (Chris); nephews, Kacy Denning (Anna), Andy Herring (Joy), Will King (Allison), and Brian King (Hillary); and grand dog, Henry Jack.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Carl Denning and Inez Wilkes Denning; sister Dianne Denning, sister-in-law Jana H. Blackman, and brother-in-law Garrett Herring.

A service celebrating Billy’s life will be held at Maple Grove Methodist Church on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Billy will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Maple Grove Methodist Church. Please send memorial contributions to Joyce Herring at 1555 Watery Branch Rd. Dunn, NC 28334.
