J.C. Tart, 85, of Goldsboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at ECU Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

Born on July 29, 1939, in Sampson County, J.C. was the son of the late Leslie E. Tart and Lottie Smith Tart. In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ileen Smith Tart.

J.C. dedicated many years of his career to the finance industry, beginning with Provident Finance before establishing his own finance company. Later, he worked at Hampton Industries in Kinston, where he remained until his retirement. Even after retiring, J.C. remained active in his community, finding great fulfillment in driving a school bus for Wayne County Public Schools.

A man of many interests, J.C. especially enjoyed collecting die-cast classic cars and cherished time spent with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Stokes and husband Donald; grandson, Christopher Stokes and wife, Carrie; great-grandson, Bryson Stokes; and a special granddaughter, Sara Kummer and husband James, along with their children, Wesley and Sophie. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Tart.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating J.C.’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. A private interment will take place at Wayne Memorial Park.
