Joan Summerlin Bell Holmes, a rural Mount Olive resident, passed away Monday morning, July 12, 2021 at home. She was 73 years of age.

Joan was a long-time employee with Boling Chair Company and later with Master Brand from which she retired.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15, at 2 p.m. from Tyndall Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Ashley Summerlin, followed by burial in the Wilson Cemetery near Calypso. The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour before the service.

Joan is survived by her husband, Sherwood Holmes, of the home; three children, Bobbie Jean Bell Kornegay of La Grange, Denny Bell with wife, Jamie, of Mount Olive, and Jimmy Bell with wife, Wanda, of Kenansville; five grandchildren, John Robert Overton with wife, Cassie, Pamela Oles with husband, Chris, Jamison Bell, Dexter Bell, and Travis Bell; great-grandchildren, Arianna Overton, Kaylee Overton, and Gracelyn Oles; two sisters, Daisy Jean S. Farrior, and Doris S. Benites with husband, Alex, all of Mount Olive; three brothers, Levy Summerlin, Adrian “Sonny” Summerlin with wife, Jan, and Jerry Summerlin with wife, Connie, all of Mount Olive; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Bobby Dexter Bell; her parents, Buckner F. and Lillie Mae Grady Summerlin; a brother, William Elbert “Buddy” Summerlin; and two sisters, Julia S. Miller and Clara Lee S. Garner.
