William D. “Bill” Best, 84, passed away on Monday evening at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Wayne County, Bill was the son of the late James Edward “Bully” Best and Josie Jones Best.

Bill retired from the Cherry Hospital Farm after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Goldsboro Seventh-day Adventist Church. Bill always enjoyed the opportunity to go fishing or to just be outdoors. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Pineview Cemetery in Seven Springs with Pastor Jose LaPorte, Jr. officiating. Mr. Best will lie in state at Seymour Funeral Home on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and the family will greet friends on Saturday immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Smith Best; daughters, Teresa Best Johnson and husband Russell, April Melinda Best, and Jennifer Hicks White and husband Barry; grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Brandon Allen, Dustin Allen, Ashli Allen, Christopher William Hicks and Ethan Pierce, whom they loved as their own; sister, Evelyn Best Robinson and husband Joe; and brother, Paul Best.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Best Hicks; grandson, Joshua Dean Hicks; sisters, Aline Best Johnson and Christine Sanderson; and brothers, Edward Earl Best and Dennis Ray Best.
