Rosewood 42, North Johnston 0

Rosewood opened its season with a 42-0 victory against North Johnston on Thursday night. The Eagles flew out to a 22-0 halftime lead and never looked back, and the Eagles played well on both sides of the ball.

Avante George led Rosewood’s running game with 120 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Quarterback Will Harris completed four passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns, while Logan Merritt caught three passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns.

“I’m very pleased with our team’s effort. We’ve got plenty of work to get better. However, I believe the boys can see the potential this season has,” Rosewood head coach Robert Britt said.

Rosewood (1-0 overall) hosts West Carteret next Friday.

 

South Central 46, C.B. Aycock 7

South Central toppled C.B. Aycock, 46-7, in the season opener for both teams.

The Falcons ran the ball well against the Golden Falcons. Janari Carmichael rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown to lead South Central’s ground game. Zyaire Williams and Kelvin Chadwick combined for 104 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Clay Matthews threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Eli Davis for the Golden Falcons’ lone touchdown of the game.

David Reid paced C.B. Aycock’s ground game with 46 yards on 10 carries. On the defensive side of the ball, Davis had a fumble recovery and seven tackles, while Turner Bass had four tackles.

C.B. Aycock (0-1 overall) returns to action on Mar.5 at Southern Wayne.

 

Northside – Pinetown 36, North Duplin 0

 

Spring Creek, Goldsboro and Southern Wayne all play on Friday night, while The Matthew Motors High School Game of the Week, Princeton vs. East Duplin, will take place on Saturday.
