Vivian Ann DeHart Patton passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 at UNC Rex Hospital. Mrs. Patton was born in Wyoming County, W.V. to the late William Brown DeHart and Eula Geneva French DeHart on January 4, 1929. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Patton was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Perry Patton.

Mrs. Patton was employed for many years as a department manager at the Seymour Johnson base exchange. However, her primary concern was always her family. Her children were her pride and joy, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of her eye. There was nothing she enjoyed more than the time they spent together.

Christmas was Mrs. Patton’s favorite time of year. For her, it was more than a holiday. Christmas was a state-of-mind. She began discussing the details of Christmas gatherings as early as July.

Mrs. Patton was blessed with a green thumb and enjoyed tending to her yard. She was very proud of her gardening skills. She also took great pleasure in caring for animals, particularly her dogs, horses, and birds. In retirement, Mrs. Patton enjoyed a variety of activities, especially reading mysteries.

A service to celebrate and remember Mrs. Patton’s life will be held by the graveside at Fairview Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2021. Social distancing and the wearing of a face covering are requested.

Mrs. Patton is survived by her two children, Caroline Dean and husband, Winston, and Barry Patton and wife, Kathryn; grandchildren, Bret Dean (Jessica), Elizabeth Goodger (Brian), Kari Motluck (Nick), Kyle Woodard (Jennifer), and Matthew Patton (Raney); great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Ava, Zack, Zoey, Natalie, Blair, Cooper, Alyssa, Rosie, Evelyn, Kayley, and Austin; and sister, Lila Atkins.
