Jewel Jeanette Dawson Kilpatrick, 88, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Wayne County on September 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Levi A. and LaUra Head Dawson.
Jewel graduated from the nursing program at Wayne Community College. She had worked as a nurse with Wayne Memorial Hospital, Oak Manor Nursing Home, and retired from Cherry Hospital.
Jewel loved the town of Seven Springs. She worked to improve the community and proudly served as their Mayor. Jewel was instrumental in the construction of the community park in Seven Springs and was a founding member of the Seven Springs Rescue Squad. She attended Zion United Methodist Church in the Pricetown community.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Seven Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Doug Johnson officiating. Jewel will lie in state at Seymour Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and the family will greet friends on Saturday following the service at the cemetery. Attendees are asked to wear a face covering, practice social distancing, and bring a chair if needed.
Jewel is survived by her son, Thomas Franklin “Sonny” Kilpatrick (Jennie) of Pricetown; daughters, Ranie Holland (John) of Nahunta, Teresa Kilpatrick (Shannon LeRoy) of Seven Springs, and Wendy Bovell (Greg) of Chattanooga, TN; her grandchildren, Shane Kilpatrick, Jennifer K. Hartley, Trey Kilpatrick, Brian Odom, Christy Kennedy, Amy Whaley, Lori Ballance, Jonathan Holland, Will Bland, Christopher Bland and Dawson Bovell; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kilpatrick; daughter, Sheila Rouse; brother, Roger Dawson; sister, Doris Highsmith; and a dear friend, Mamie Jean Price.
