City Council Retains Power For Appointing District 1 Replacement

City Council Retains Power For Appointing District 1 Replacement

It appears District 1 citizens will not have a chance to weigh in on their next representative on the Goldsboro City Council.

That’s despite a push from Councilwoman Brandi Matthews at Monday’s meeting.

Matthews asked to get the district involved by creating an advisory committee made of of District 1 residents that could take a look at the applicants and make a recommendation on the new council member.

In the end,  a 3-2 vote meant the city council would retain the power to take the applications and select the next District 1 council member.

The District 1 vacancy was created when Antonio Williams left the council after he was elected to the Wayne County Board of Commissioners.
