Marguerite Bartlett Smith completed her journey home on Saturday, December 12, 2020 to the welcoming words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Marguerite was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 11, 1932 to the late Roy Cleveland and Amanda Bartlett. She came to Goldsboro in June of 1966 after her marriage to Richard H. (Dick) Smith. Marguerite and her husband were owners and operators of Dick Smith Equipment and Goldsboro Auction Company, Inc. She graduated from Oakhurst High School, Piedmont Community College, and Stone School of Modeling in Charlotte.

Marguerite retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Telephone Friends, Pioneers and Yellow Page Sales retirees. After the death of her husband, she continued working with her children in the business.

She had two churches that were very dear to her, Oakhurst Baptist Church in Charlotte and Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church in Goldsboro. Marguerite was very active and held many positions in both churches.

A service to celebrate Marguerite’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2020 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. T.R. Miller officiating. Interment will be in Willow Dale Cemetery with Rev. T.R. Miller and Rev. Robert Bandy officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery and respectfully reminds those attending the service to practice social distancing guidelines. At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Mike McLamb.

In addition to her parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Smith, a sister, Barbara Bartlett Helms; a brother, Roy C. Bartlett, Jr. and wife Lillie, and a nephew, Boyd C. Bartlett.

Marguerite is survived by her children, Richard Arnold Smith and wife Cindy and Sandra Smith McLamb and husband Mike; grandchildren, Austin Richard Smith (the love of her life) and Ragan Amanda McLamb (her precious angel); three step-grandchildren, William, Elizabeth and Macy McLamb, all whom were very special to her. She is also survived by her brother, Edward S. Bartlett and wife Ruby; two nephews, Tony Bartlett and wife Darlene and David Bartlett and wife Carol; and their dear families.
