Commissioner Johnnie Sampson, Jr., 87, of 1038 Sampson Street, New Bern, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday evening surrounded by his loving family.

Commissioner Sampson has been a member of the Craven County Board of Commissioners since December 1996. He retired from NADEP at MCAS Cherry Point in 1991 as Power Support Mechanic and Training Leader.

Commissioner Sampson is a native of Craven County and his civic involvement is numerous, including Craven County Voters’ League, Concerned Citizens, NAACP, and the Duffyfield Residents’ Council.
