Earl Clemmons Hatcher, 93, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Earl was born in Chase City, Virginia on September 3, 1927 to the late Garnet and Patty Chandler Hatcher. He lived his dream proudly serving in the United State Air Force. Earl retired as Chief of Supply after 22 years of service to our country and continued to work in supply for another 22 years with civil service. He also volunteered with the pharmacy at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base for 8 years. Earl served as the past commander of the American Legion.

Earl was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life, he lived to work. He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them. Earl always enjoyed his family trips to fish and camp at Buggs Island in Clarksville, Virginia.

A graveside service to celebrate Earl’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. John Howard officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Earl is survived by his wife of 74 years, Elizabeth S. Hatcher; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Shirley Hatcher and Tony and Karen Hatcher; grandchildren, Kurt Ebaugh and wife Shannon, Heike Mills and husband Todd, and Christy H. Carter and husband Aaron; great-grandchildren, Jurek Mills, Nathan Mills, Gibson Ebaugh, Shelby Bradley and husband Jared, and Katie Perry and husband Kyle; great-great-grandchildren, Angelina Bradley, Nova Leigh Bradley and Waylon Bradley; and sister, Irene King. He also enjoyed his family visits with his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe and Reid Solomon and Diane Dean.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph Hatcher; and his brothers, Harold, James and Hildred Hatcher.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
