UMO Athletics Campaigns For Voter Registration

The University of Mount Olive Department of Athletics in collaboration with the newly formed Diversity and Inclusion team are spearheading a virtual voter registration drive this week. The drive will take place Monday and Tuesday, September 28-29.

The athletic department has had numerous conversations and meetings throughout the course of the last six months on the racial and social injustices that are impacting our world and community. The Diversity and Inclusion Team came as a result of these discussions and was a way to create a committee of student-athletes who can help in the efforts of creating social justice and equality within the department, campus, and community.

The Diversity and Inclusion Team is made up of one representative from each sport. The members goal is to have an open dialogue on what the issues are, as they see them from their perspective, and how they can go about requesting action and change.

The first act from the D&I Team was voter registration and getting students signed up to vote in the November 3 general election.
