County’s COVID-19 Positivity Rate Lower Than State’s

The coronavirus pandemic continues and Wayne County is trying to stay ahead of the crisis.

Last week, County Manager Craig Honeycutt shared some good news in an update provided by Wayne County Health Director Dr. Brenda Weis.

Weis had informed the county that during the community testing events, the average community positivity rate was 6% — well below the state’s rate of 10%.

The county has also awarded the COVID Community Partner contract to the United Way of Wayne COunty, which will assist with contact tracing, education and outreach.

At last week’s county board meeting, Commissioner Ed Cromartie shared the challenges the pandemic presents to the Latinx/Hispanic community.

Commissioner Joe Daughtery says he continues to be concerned for Wayne County’s small businesses.

As of Tuesday, Wayne County had recorded a total of 2,481 positive COVID-19 cases.  When taking into account those already considered recovered, there were an estimated 183 active cases in Wayne County as of Tuesday.  The county has recorded 42 coronavirus-related deaths.
