County Monitors COVID-19 Outbreaks At Food, Health Facilities

Wayne County continues to closely monitor the coronavirus situation.  At Tuesday’s meeting of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners, interim Health Director Ken Stern gave an update on the latest local COVID-19 figures.

Stern says the county is tracking outbreaks at the O’Berry Center and Cherry Hospital.  11 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed at O’Berry Center.  At Cherry Hospital, one patient and four staff that reside in Wayne County have tested positive for the virus.

Without getting into specifics, Stern says the county is aware of COVID-19 cases at six local food processing facilities.  Those facilities are not necessarily in Wayne County, although there are workers that reside in Wayne County.  Stern would not name the food processing plants dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak since the state has not released that information.

As of Tuesday morning’s update from Wayne County Government, the county had recorded 867 total positive cases of COVID-19.  It is estimated 603 of those patients have recovered.
