The accident occurred when a passenger car heading east on Outlaw Road apparently attempted to cross over Old Mount Olive Highway and struck a passenger car that was heading south on the highway.  One of the vehicles ended up running off the road and down into a ravine between the highway and the CSX Railroad track.  A male and female both were taken to the hospital to be checked out for non-life-threating injuries. Dudley firefighters assisted in traffic control by blocking off Old Mount Olive Highway while the wrecker service retrieved the vehicle. The accident in being investigated by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
