Commissioners Approve Resolution Honoring Fallen Trooper

The Wayne County Board offers its condolences to a fallen state trooper’s family.

Last week, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution honoring the life of Trooper Nolan J. Sanders.

County Manager Craig Honeycutt thanked the local emergency responders for their work during the private services for Trooper Sanders.

County Board Chair Ray Mayo praised the local outpouring of support during the March 31st services for Trooper Sanders, and noted the procession for Sanders stretched from Wayne Memorial Park all the way back to Mount Olive.

Commissioner Wayne Aycock noted the fatal crash has impacted some of those that responded to the scene, and the state and Highway Patrol have stepped up to help them during this time.

Trooper Sanders was on duty in Wayne County during the evening of March 27th when his patrol vehicle ran off the road on I-795 near mile marker 19.5.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sanders was born in Wayne County, and he was a five-year veteran with the State Highway Patrol.

Private services were held for Trooper Sanders on March 31st.  A public memorial is planned for a later date.
